But before arriving at this point, the process of growth in faith required an act of repentance, then followed by baptism in the name of Jesus Christ as way of the remission of sins, and the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

That openness gave them the possibility to make a confession and eventually embrace the faith. Those responsible for this work were the messengers of the Gospel, which is in this case the apostles and disciples of Jesus. They understood with clear minds the contents of the preaching, then they were moved with feelings of glad and interest, and the next step was their wills that already opened to be filled with truth and wisdom of the Gospel. And then they asked Peter and the apostles what they really needed to do in order to progress in this process to the real faith. They understood well but above all they inclined with emotion and will to believe. Then the Jews who heard that preaching responded with their hearts were deeply moved. The preaching on the Pentecost Day has this point to say: God had made Jesus, whom you crucified, the Lord and Christ. But the passage from the Acts of Apostles today highlights a fact that people who listened to the preaching of Peter agreed and accepted the teachings on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Like when Jesus was still alive, who was not accepted by many, the first preaching by Peter who was accompanied by other apostles and disciples, was believed to have the same fate. In other words, when you present a fact, you cannot please and satisfy everyone at once. There are also unsure responses because they are not in line with either welcoming or unwelcoming.

There are the responses of welcoming and show agreement, while others show disagreement and rejection. When the truth or fact of an event revealed for a public consumption, the coming responses are not always uniform: yes or no. The theme for our meditation today is: Response to the First Preaching. Reading is delivered by Jeane Jacklyne and meditation is delivered by May Ann Rodrigo from Saint Peter's School in Jakarta, Indonesia.
